Sunday night I decided to make some bread bowls using a recipe I had found on Pinterest. They are whole wheat bread bowls made of honey, olive oil, whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, and a little bit of salt. Click here for the recipe and instructions :)
I can't say they're all that delicious to eat plain. But add in some hot, creamy soup and these bowls are perfection!
I baked them a little too long so the bottoms were a little black-ish and the crust all around was a little bit tough. I made them Sunday night, wrapped them in tin-foil and stuck them in the fridge to keep them a little more fresh for Monday night. Then I took them out a little while before the soup was done and, still wrapped in the foil, stuck them in the oven to warm up. When they came out they were perfectly warm and the crust was just right, not too soft, but not too crunchy.
Now for the soup...
I listed out the options Monday morning to Mister Brandt and asked him what kind of soup he would like.
-"How about this good chicken noodle soup? The recipe is awesome!"
-"Mmm, no."
-"Ok what about this potato soup one? It sounds SO good."
-"No."
-"Minestrone? We have just about everything to make it."
-"What is that? I don't want that."
-"It's Italian or something. Oo! What about this Tomato Basil Parmesan soup?! It's creamy!"
-"Tomato? Yeah that sounds really good."
So much for getting excited about making some soup. He might not have been, but I was definitely excited. So I used this recipe to make Tomato Basil Parmesan soup in my crock-pot.
After working at a cold, rainy soccer game, coming home to the smell of this soup cooking was the best thing in the world! After the bread was all warmed and soup was completely cooked, we dove in and devoured it all! The bread soaking up this flavorful soup was music to my taste-buds!
Let me just say, you GOTTA try it.
DEFINITELY gonna try it. T and I love bread bowls! (and that recipe sounds just like my homemade wheat bread recipe anyway...)
